    Development is life-long, multi-directional, Multi-disciplinary, History-Embedded, Multi-dimensional, and Contextual.

Among these, Development is considered Life-long because it happens in the whole span of a person's life. Starting from Conception up to death, a person continually develops. Development occur in stages, and it depends on whether the development is Physical, Mental, or Emotional. A growing fetus, for example, grows inside the mother's womb in stages. At one month, it is an embryo, at 4 months, the baby's bones develop, at 8 months, his/her lungs are fully developed, and at 9 months (41 weeks), The baby is ready to be delivered.

Another, Development is History-Embedded. A person's historical background greatly influences a child's development. Children who were born during a time of chaos and war, has a different mental and emotional developmental maturity about them, compared to A child who is born today. My grandfather was a Chinese Soldier stationed in the Philippines. He was a very strict man. Often times, he would tell stories of war, and how it affected his outlook in life. He looked at Sunrise with great determination to live, and sunsets with an underlying grim of longing to wake up the next day.

I have learned in class that studying about a child's development is important. As a future teacher, it is my responsibility to treat my students according to the stage of development they were in. It is my duty to understand that they don't grow at the same paces, and at the same rates. A lot of changes occur in a child as he/she develops, and my ability to cope with these changes as an educator, and as a second mother, will determine how capable I am at my profession. Personally, I easily notice how different I am from others. How through my life experiences, I developed a different way, especially in terms of emotional maturity.

  2. 1.) An example of characteristic of development is History-Embedded. In this kind of development, a person historical background can be a great influence in the person life. During this time, a lot of people are starting to live the way that this time dictates. Child born in this time of year easily adapts to what he sees and learn. While a person that is born during the early 60’s have a different approach in this time. People that we’re born in that era can be either feisty or a self conscious and sometimes be paranoid. It is due to what a person experienced and saw during his childhood times. People who grew in that time turned out to be a firm person living in this kind of time. A person that had experienced Martial Law in that year can be seen today, a lot of people that have seen how the fall of the administration that year can also be seen today. Like the previous Estrada administration, a lot of people who participated there we’re the same people who live and saw what happen in their childhood years. In the end, a person’s approach on how to act can be a product of what he developed as a sign of his historical-embedded past.

Another example of a characteristic of development is Multi-Directional. It is a proved continuity of a bond, example the mother and child bonding. The attachment that those two have has a powerful effect than other horrific events; large changes can have minute effects or can by the other way around. An example of this is that a child that had a strong bond with his mother; he will be more attached his mother rather than anyone that is caring for him. Same as the other way around, a child developed a strong bond with other person rather than his mom will more likely to be attached to that person. In the end of this characteristic, can only affect a person’s attachment and become the same attitude on how he acts towards people around him.

2.) The things I learned in class is that development varies and it is a continuous process. It is not just focus in one part but it involves different aspects. It also has definite trends and it is orderly but uneven. I can use these in the future by understanding a student depending on its stage of development. The strategy that will use in the learning process of a child is depend on their stage of development. For example, the strategy teachers used in the school age students cannot be used in the pre-schooler. We can help them in their process of growth and development by providing not just information but also love, care and attention like what a mother does to her child. School is their second home and teachers are their second parents.

  3. Development is life-long and contextual. Development is life-long because it is from womb to tomb. From the time of the union of the sperm cell and egg cell, development already starts until we have our last breath. In the mother’s womb, we develop heartbeat, all the vital organs, our capacities to hear, taste, smell and touch. Upon birth, little by little, the newborn starts to develop clearer vision. With proper nourishment, the newborn baby now turns to a crawling, then walking and running toddler. He even starts to develop cognitively, emotionally and socially. From toddlers to young children, adolescent, young adults, adults to old-age. This process of development continues and never stops until death.
Development is contextual because it is affected by age, culture, family-background and norms. For example, there are some countries in the middle east which have terrorism subject as part of their curriculum. In this subject they are taught how to use guns and be offensive in preparation for what Muslim religion calls “holy war” or “jihad”. While in Christian nations, peace and love are advocated. Those who grew up with terrorism subjects are more likely to develop aggressive personalities. Always ready for war or fights; while those in Christian nations are more of into giving love and forgiveness. Contextual because it is age-graded. The physical, social, mental and cognitive development of individuals are of different pace with regards to age. For a toddler, physically, his growth is more of the size while for an adolescent, there are new developments in the physical body like growth of new hair in different parts of the body, formation of curves and shapes and changes of voice.
In this class I learned that every moment of life is an opportunity to develop and to improve myself. There is a vast room of development in this world; the academe, people around me, my own experience, other people’s experiences, history, different culture and more. It is just for us to choose which of them will do us good or harm us. But as an individual created with high mental capacity, we have to be responsible on the choices that we make because they will shape us. We have to be wise in such a way that whatever we do, we make sure that it is in accordance with the will of the One who made us. If our hearts’ desire is aligned with HIM, surely, every choice we make will be for our own good and for everyone as well and development will always be for amelioration.

  4. 1. One characteristic of development is that it is life-long. We start developing our personality as soon as we come out of our mother’s womb. As we get a little older, we are taught how to soothe ourselves in times of need. We explore things in our own. We go to school and learn a lot of things. Example of it is when we first start to walk on our own. When we are fed, changed, and placed in our cribs, crying isn’t always going to warrant mom coming to get us. We must learn through personal development, how to soothe ourselves, and fall off to sleep. As long as we are alive and breathing development continues, it just stops when we also stop breathing.

Another characteristic of development is contextual; it is based merely on the events that happened to us. As time passes by we developed ourselves, development is also learning, we learn from the things that happened to us either positive or negative, we learn from our mistakes and in that development takes place.

    2. I have learned that development doesn’t just stop and that it continues throughout our life. As we grow older there are a lot of things that we need to nurture in ourselves. And there are different aspects of development not just physically but emotionally, spiritually, socially and every aspects of human life. In studying this lesson I know in myself that I will be able to use this in the future, children grow at different paces and in that I will be able to apply this knowledge that I have learned in this class.

  5. 1. Human development characterize by multi-dimensional, multi-directional, contextual, lifelong, historical-embedded, multidisciplinary, and development of plastic.

    a) Human development is a lifelong process of physical, behavioral, cognitive, and emotional growth and change. In the early stages of life—from babyhood to childhood, childhood to adolescence, and adolescence to adulthood—enormous changes take place (from womb to tomb). Development is a life-long because we are subject to change. According to the philosophy of man, man is not a constant behavior. Man can change, is capable to adapt to change, and be able to change. I don’t believe in the saying that “first impression last.” If your student is seems so “slow” in his previous academic years, then do not judge it because man can able to adapt to change. It maybe he’s not that too good in academic performance, but there’s a period or time wherein he can develop his self very well. Through a person’s experience in his environment he can develop effectively and how this experiences will be utilized in life in order to develop well and function efficiently.

    b) Human development is also multi-dimensional in that there are varieties of factors or “dimensions” that affect development. First is socioeconomic status. Children belongs to the high income group family can attain their physical needs like health and nutrition. A well nourished child can able to develop well in terms of achieving education and academic performance, thus leading to desirable behavior and attitude. They can be a good person and manifesting acceptable behavior like respect, obey, etc. Whereas, those belong to low-income group cannot afford education, which could contribute to some undesirable outcome like malnourishment (i.e. stunted growth, very underweight), illiteracy demonstrating bad behavior (i.e., snatching, holdapping, vandalism, etc.) and the like. Another factor is cognitive development. Children with mental retardation is having difficult to cope with education. They have the inability to think right and to act accordingly. Special education must be provided. Then, another is biological and/or physical factor. Children with disabilities and impairment may experience difficulty attending education. In some instance, they have “insecurities” in their self and lack of self-confidence to face other people, other leave school because of these reasons. Social factor must also be considered. Children with separation anxiety has the inability to separate to their parents or guardian and in some cases, inability to mingle with other kids. Some students don’t want to go to school without their parents, and their parents must be inside the room in order to adjust in the environment. Because they believe that if their parents leave the school, they will not come back again.

    c) By multidirectional we mean that development can simultaneously proceed in more than one direction. For instance, both physical strength and cognitive ability can increase at the same time. For example, school athletes like swimmer, basketball/baseball player, etc. Physical activity can stimulate brain activity, therefore there’s increase in both areas.

    d) Development could be also a plastic/plasticity. There is an increase/decrease, gain/reduce. Children must be able to sleep in the afternoon to enable for them to increase their height. The bone formation is at work during sleeping time. We Filipinos have saying that “anak matulog ka sa tanghali para tumangkad ka”. Well, this is quite true. A person who is obese, but is in love, inspired, and motivated can easily burn and loss his fats. Self-confidence will be the result. Whereas, a person who is problematic about family or love one (i.e, boyfriend or girlfriend) may turn or divert his attention to eating a lot of foods leading to obesity and lack of self-confidence.

  6. 2. Human growth and development is vital to everyone. As a teacher, we should understand its nature and scope. I learned that one man is developed differently than to others, thus everyone has its own characteristics. We teachers must be able to understand children/students’ “culture” for we to able to adjust and cope with different children in their different behavior and attitude. I learned that a teacher must know that not all children/student is normal (either in physical or psychological), but there are also children with deviation from normal or “abnormal” that need more attention, care, comfort especially in attaining their education. I noticed that aside from parents, a teacher also is one of the important instruments to train to develop the students’ skills and talents. Specifically, motor skills could greatly affect their daily living and academic performance. Developing these skills could contribute in the learning needs of the student such as doing hands-on activities like basic sewing, electric circuit, basic planting or harvesting, etc. Self-help and social–help activities like bathing, hand washing, washing the dishes, cleaning of room, etc., may help to develop in their daily living. We teacher is not only teaching academic lesson, but we can also help students to develop or “mold” them more effectively by means of proper training and guiding them. I may say that each individual has a unique distinct characteristics because we grew and developed differently to each other. So we must be able to know very carefully our student, as a teacher we must observed them thoroughly especially their development in the academe.

  7. Development is multidimensional. Development is affected by different factors. It can also be influenced by interlinked components such as biological, psychological and social fields. It can be internal or external aspects. The human development is molded in various approaches. For instance in psychological and social field, the internal aspects involve the way of thinking, the perspectives and principles about certain objects, the emotions regarding experiences and ways on how to deal with different situations while external aspects involves the effects of the environment, behavior, relationship with other people and the experiences in life. The biological field comprises the intelligence, health conditions and abilities.
Development is multidirectional. Humans can handle things simultaneously. They have the ability to be flexible and develop their physical and psychological aspects at the same time. For instance, in playing games like DOTA, the eye and hand coordination improves as well as the logical and critical thinking abilities. The players should be able to come up with a great idea and strategies in order to save teammates and eliminate the enemies. They must develop good teamwork to win.
Development is history-embedded. History influences development through internalization of the previously acquired knowledge and norms. Example: In educational system, history lessons are different in every country therefore the development can be affected by the kind of knowledge that are implied to the students. Since the religious beliefs and laws were based in history, in some countries abortion is legal and some doesn’t permit it. Through these differences, development will be affected. How will they value life and how will they react?
Development is life-long. Development starts from fecundation to extinction. It covers the whole human lifespan. Stages of Prenatal Development: Germinal Stage, Embryonic Stage and Fetal Stage. Physical growth and development can be observed more inside the uterus just like the development of cells and organs and the increase in size and weight of fetus. Stages of Postnatal Development are the following: Infancy – Toddlerhood – Early Childhood- Late Childhood –Adolescent – Early Adulthood – Late Adulthood and Senility.
Development is contextual. It occurs in various contexts like family, community, environment, socioeconomic, culture and traditions. Incomplete family under the socioeconomic status living in an unfavorable community and environment will develop differently from a happy family meeting its basic needs and living in a secure community and tranquil environment. The culture and ethnicity also plays an important role especially in values and moral development.

  9. During the class discussion, I have learned that development is affected by different aspects. Since human development varies from each other. They must be approached differently. In a classroom setting, the teacher must understand the students’ attitude and the teacher must be aware of the students’ learning needs in order to provide proper teaching. As teachers, we must help the students to develop more. Let’s help them to be aware of their strengths and weaknesses so that they can improve. For instance, for better development, the teacher must learn how to enhance the different intelligences of the students as elaborated in Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence Theory. The focus must not be just about linguistics and mathematics, it must be expanded. The teacher must formulate strategies on how to enhance the intelligences in every student.

  10. 1. Our development of human is Life long. Our life begins since the union of egg cell and sperm cell in the womb of mother. For 9 mos inside the womb our internal organs and body parts had develop for us to be ready the outside world. And then on our birthday up to the present time our physical, emotional and social development had take place. Physical in the terms that we have grown bigger, our body can now adopt to needs of the changing world. During our early years we started as a baby that spend most of the time sleeping and drinking milk. But as we grow older we have learned to stand, walk and run. Our legs and limbs had developed. Until our other body parts have fully developed and make physical movements on our own.

Other characteristic is multi-dimensional. We humans do not live alone, we have other company. And because of this we are affected on their action. These factor in our environment have made us what we are today. for instance if we grow on a well educated family we as individual will have a broader outlook in life. We will have a bigger understanding of things. We will search for knowledge until we find the answers that will satisfy our curiosity.

    2. I have learned that a human development has different broader factors. As a business student in my undergraduate course I don't have a brief background about development, but in this class I had understand the development of a human. It is not just in terms of physical but also the social and emotional development. And there are also external factors that should be considered.

  11. 1. Name and describe at least two characteristics of development. Give example.
For me, Human Development is ELASTIC/LIKE A PLASTIC. All of us know that nothing is permanent in this world but change. With that saying you will already have an idea why development is Elastic/like a Plastic. I change, you change, she changes, he changes, and we all change. Not just physically, but emotionally, mentally and spiritually also. Sometimes it’s for the better and sometimes it’s for the worse. Nobody’s perfect that’s why we all change. An EXAMPLE of this characteristic is a change on your physical appearance (PHYSICAL ASPECTS), a man can be as hunk as Tom Cruise if he wanted to, in that manner wanting to be a hunk boosts your confidence, you are being developed physically, you can change your appearance anytime you wanted to. Another is when a Roman Catholic guy loves an “Iglesia ni Cristo” woman (SPIRITUAL ASPECTS), with my experiences; “INC” members oftentimes choose their religion over their “Catholic husband-to-be/ wife-to-be”. So in the part of a Catholic man/woman, she/he changes his/her religion just to be with the man/woman she/he loves. A human can be developed spiritually by changing his/her religion and simply know more about God. Another example is when a man needs to go to United States to study and leaves his girlfriend here in our country. That man should keep in mind the reason why he went away is for his future(MENTALLY) and also should be strong enough to think that he is far from his girlfriend(EMOTIONALLY). In this case the man should adapt the changes in his surroundings since as a Filipino we were raised differently by our parents. Being far from the one love is difficult, but as a matter of fact it helps us to develop ourselves emotionally and mentally- by adapting the changes.

Another Characteristic is that Development is LIFE-LONG. It’s actually forever before death, I may say. We develop continuously, from the day our parents’ reproductive cells met to birth until the day we die. Development started when our father’s sperm cell meets our mother’s egg cells, it’s funny but that’s where we all started and developed. In the womb of our mother we already developed our organs, though I am not familiar how we grow inside our mother’s womb since Iam not a nurse or a doctor, I am very sure that we are developed inside them every day. We definitely are developed physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally, and still actually developing. It will never stop, never, unless we stop breathing.

    2. What has been significant lesson you have learned in class?
Honestly, I have learned A LOT, not only for myself but also for other people. Especially with the topics that we have tackled, Specifically, Nature vs Nurture, Rights of a Child and this Human Development. I have come to understand why some people are different, why am I different. I was able to think of other people’s shortcomings, why do they act like this and that, why do they do this. I think differently. I was able to understand that we are not just developed physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. There are a lot of other explanations for our development. In fact, I just realized that all the characteristics really affect our development. And I am glad that sooner or later, when I become a teacher I will be able apply the things I have learned in these topics.

  12. 1.
The lifespan perspective on human development has seven basic characteristics. Development is.
•Life-long - No age period dominates development. In other words, the lifespan perspective is continuous and is not dominated by any one age period.
•Multi-dimensional - Development consists of biological, cognitive, socioemotional, and spiritual dimensions.
•Multi-directional - Some aspects of development increase, while others decrease.
•Plastic - Depending on the individual's life conditions, development may take many paths.
•Historically-embedded- Development is influenced by historical conditions.
•Multidisciplinary - Psychologists, sociologists, anthropologists, neuroscientists and medical researchers all study human development and share a concern for unlocking the mysteries of development throughout the lifespan.
•Contextual - The individual continually responds to and acts on contexts, which include a person’s biological makeup, physical environment, social, historical, and cultural contexts
    2.
I have learned in class that the entire lifespan on human development is important, for several reasons. One is the discovery that developmental growth and change continue during every part of life. Furthermore, to understand fully the social influences on people of a given age, we need to understand the people who are, in large measure, providing those influences. For instance, to understand development in infants, we need to unravel the effects of their parents’ ages on the social environment.

  13. 1. Development is characterized as Multi-disciplinary, Life-long, Multi-dimensional, Plastic, Multi-directional, Contextual, and Historically Embedded as discussed in class.
    a. Development is described as Life-long because we develop from womb to tomb. People are subjected to change as time goes by. From the moment of fertilization and as we mature inside our mother’s womb until we come out, we grow and advance in life. In development, we undergo through different stages wherein we experience certain physical, social, emotional, mental, and spiritual development. That is how development is, we may not develop at the same rate, but one way or another we have to progress through life and it is to be expected.

    b. Another characteristic is development as Contextual. By some means, I believe with the saying that we are our experiences. We develop through the events that occurred to us. How we are raised in a certain environment affects how we perceive life. Another example is the various norms, standards, traditions, and such that we encounter in different settings. It plays an important role as how we are to respond to these circumstances that will further mold us and have an effect on the developmental process of a person.

    2. Through the discussion of development, I have fully grasped the knowledge that human growth and development is greatly affected by many factors and it varies from one person to another. As I said earlier, a person may not develop at the same time as the other person is. Therefore, this will help me as a future teacher in dealing with students with different needs. As a future teacher, I may have to use different learning strategies to help further enhance the knowledge, skills, and attitude of my students. In that manner, the learning needs of the students will be attained thus promoting growth and development.

  14. 1. One characteristic of human development is that it is contextual. We all know that all development occurs within a context or setting and this pertains to the families, peers, schools, communities, neighborhoods, churches and others that are influenced by the cultural, social and economic factors. As an individual changes, the context or setting also changes which affects human development. Such changes can be influenced by normative age-graded influences which concerns on the occurrence of events similar to individuals in a particular age group. Examples of these events are puberty, menopause or andropause, formal education, graduation, or retirement; next is normative history-graded influences where events are common to people of a particular generation. Examples of these events are EDSA Revolutions, Martial Law, emergence of high-end technologies and different social sites and online gaming and others; and the last is nonnormative life events that mark a big impact on the development of an individual. Examples of these are death of a parent/s or relative/s, having broken family, early marriage or pregnancy, earthquakes, floods, fire that kills life and destroys properties, winning in a lottery or picking up a big amount of money. All these types of influences has a direct effect that shape and modify one’s personality on how he/she is going to handle, react and perceive the world. The development of an individual greatly lies on the context or setting he/she belongs to.

Another characteristic of human development is that it is multidirectional, meaning, that throughout life, there are dimensions in one’s personality that expand and shrink. In simply means that, as some dimensions increases, others may decrease. Example of this characteristic is when an adolescent tends to or learns how to establish peer relationships, their time to spend with family may decrease. Another example is when older adults gathered or gained lots of experiences in life, their speed of processing or doing things decreases.

    2. I was absent when this lesson is discussed but I read and studied each characteristics of the life-span perspective. I have learned that human development is a never-ending process and is influenced by a lot of factors. Each characteristics of development play an important role in an individual’s life. I have learned that development, just like learning/studying is a long and never-ending process and it can be influenced by the environment he/she has. I can say that the human developments are universal, predictable and orderly in the sense that some individual, if not all, will experience the same event in their lives. These characteristics are a natural process that each individual experience all through out their life. The environment and such occurrences/events in life shape and modify the individual of what he/she will be in the future and this is very visible in every human. I have learned that all characteristics contribute to what kind of person I am now, from my parents’ guidance, love and care, to the type of community I belong and grow up with, to what school I went to and what I learned inside and outside school, to what kind of peers I have and what nature of work I have, to what unusual events in life I have experienced, and so on.

  15. Our development of human is Life long. The word long life means something that starts from birth and ends to the death.During this time they have collected all kinds of education and have become an experienced citizen.He/she makes his /her life better with the help of education.He/she gains all kinds of education in this stage but education doesn't stop, it remains until his life.
Another characteristic of human development is that it is contextual. The interactions which children have with their families have a major role to play in terms of the way children turn out in the future.most children who are exposed to negative family influences or those who have been rejected by their families, tend to join socially deviant groups.Children or adolescents who spend more time with other individuals who are non-family members may exhibit delinquency.
I have learned that studying about a child's development is important.I have learned that Lifespan is the period of time from conception extending to death. The main developmental periods are child and adolescence, early adulthood, middle adulthood and late adulthood. Each era’s transition involves a necessary change in the character of the individual’s life and sometimes takes up to six years to complete the change .

    ReplyDelete
  16. Development varies from person to person. For instance, there are two children of the same age and gender. One child could physically grow faster than the other. The other, though shorter physically, could grow faster than the former in other aspects.
Another characteristic of development is it is historically embedded. People during the World War II developed differently from the people in the 21st century.

In class, I have learned the different aspects that affect one's development. For a child to develop well, he or she must be healthy, protected, loved by family, provided with good education, accepted (sense of belongingness), etc. By knowing all these, I would be able to connect more to my present and future students.

  17. 1) Lifelong - development is never ending process we will continue develop and learn more even in our last breath. It is never ending and it might just stop when we die. We might experience some different kinds of changes as we grow old but development is still going on

History Embedded - The ability of animals to adapt on their surroundings is more simple comparing with humans. We are tend to adapt mostly any kind of situation specially if its whats going on on our generation. Development are made to match in every aspect of our life and it can depend on the situation or the scenario on what we are into. A person who was born in a non technological era might find it hard to adapt to the technology comparing to a person who was born to the technological era. Emotion and maturity is also different if a person who was born in a time of disaster he tends to become more independent and has stronger will to survive and a person who was born in a wealthy period of time tends to be happy go lucky.

    2. I have learned to different kinds of developmental stages of a child from physical to emotional. By learning more about these things it will be easier for me to develop different types of strategy of teaching that will be suitable on their situation. As a person who is dreaming to teach a child having ideas on those perspective will help me a lot as an aspiring teacher of the youth.
